What I saw today, getting a diet root beer

· Uncategorized

Some blind/partially handicapped (palsy of some sort) dude just got beat up by the WSU cops.

He was at the Barnes and Noble, harassing customers, and they called the WSU cops on him.

They were escorting him out, grabbing him by the jacket, and he was starting to resist.

Then, the bigger cop (male), pushed him up against the food display, smacking his face against the glass, very hard. This poor dude wears glasses, too. He was bleeding profusely from the mouth.

I guess this dude is a nuisance and causes problems all the time. Regardless, I feel bad for him. He should’ve just let them escort him out, but man, he’s partially blind (with a white cane) and has some other physical limitations.

Edit: I guess he’s just partially blind, and not physically impaired in any way. Still, he’s pretty small.

Happy 9 Months, Benjamin!!!

· Uncategorized

I can’t believe it! Today, Benjamin Peter is 9 months old.

Let’s see, at 9 months:

  • Pulls himself up and walks around furniture, tables, lamps (sometimes pulling them down, shattering them), highchairs, and just about anything else that he can prop himself up on.
  • Waves, on queue (most of the time), by opening and closing his fist or fists. It’s adorable.
  • Can walk around the house with his Fisher Price walker, although, he’s not adept yet at turning it around if he runs it into an obstacle, like a wall, couch, ottoman, lamp, table.
  • Grabs most food that you place in front of him with his forefinger and thumb. This took a bit of time for him to master, but he’s pretty much an old pro when it comes to eating cheerios, pieces of fruit, pieces of chicken, Doritos (just kidding), vegetables, etc.
  • He has almost 6 teeth showing: 2 on the bottom and ALMOST 4 on the top. I’d say another week or so for those top teeth to be fully showing!
  • Laughs when you tickle him, make funny faces and noises at him, or do anything else that involves him.
  • Stands in front of objects, puts his head down, and slams both hands and arms down, almost forceful! This is hilarious, and needs to be photographed and filmed as soon as possible.
  • Says sounds like “mamamamama” and “dadadadadada” and “nahny nahny nahny”.
  • Loves to eat pears. By far, this is his favorite fruit.
  • Loves to eat his “Chicken Noodle Dinner” baby food. When we feed him this, we sing: “Chicken Noooodle Diiiinnnneeeeer!” We love it. We’re nuts, but madly in love with our son!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in IMAX

· Uncategorized

Michelle and I went to the movies last night for the first time in a while. We decided that we’d get the most bang for our buck by seeing Harry Potter in the IMAX theater at the AMC near our house. Well, we were very impressed with both the presentation of the film and the film, itself! This, being the 4th Harry Potter movie, was “brilliant”! The entire movie had us excited and in awe. I just love the scenery in fantasy movies. It just seems that the creativity is left to the imagination in movies like that.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars.

What's with this dude?

Come on… you make a kajillion dollars a year, and you have to screw it up by doing drugs?

I mean, seriously. How stupid do you have to be? I could understand if you were cleaning out latrines or outhouses for a living, but playing as a running back in the NFL? Can’t you find other things to do for pleasure?

Superbowl XL

· Uncategorized

Superbowl (XL) Sunday 2006 was full of fun for the Filias family!

Not only did we get about 4ish inches of snow, which Ben was FINALLY able to go sledding on, but we started out the day with a trip to our favorite breakfast spot, The Honey Tree, right near our home. We got to visit some friends before the game, and then we ran into Marvin and his fiance, Shireen. They are getting married in May.

Marvin and Shireen

Michelle, Ben, and Steve!

On top of all this, the Superbowl was pretty exciting to watch because the Steelers had some very exciting plays. The 75 yard run by Willie Parker and the end around pass to Hines Ward by Randle-El.

Ben’s Sled Ride:
We had been waiting and waiting and waiting for it to finally snow enough and stick around long enough so that we could take Ben on his infant sled and put him in his snowsuit. We thought the snowsuit would be too big for him, but it seemed to be a perfect fit (with a little room for the rest of winter ‘06).

The Steelers won!!! I won a few beans by betting on the Steelers. I just really wanted Bettis to come home to “The D” and win a football championship. I’m so happy for him, and for my pocketbook (well, OUR pocketbook, as Michelle gets half of my unauthorized wager). =)
